The Experience With Don Stugots

Is It Wrong…..

That I have no interest in The Super Bowl? Its not because my teams are not in it, since I do not have a football team. I do not even watch or care about sports. I was a New York Yankee fan for most of my life but after seeing what they have done with the team I can no longer continue doing so.

With the economy being what it is, companies will be spending millions to have their ad shown during the game. To me this is just as ridiculous as companies giving their top CEOs bonuses. Do they realize that people are losing their jobs, homes and savings at an alarming rate?

When we learn that our priorities needs to shift from a sporting event and the airing of ads to the people that struggling and losing the struggle to keep their above water?

Didn’t your mother teach you better?

When did manners become extinct? Why is it that people resort to rudeness when being polite is just as easy? One day people will realize that being courteous to each other is better than being rude.

Honestly, what does it take to hold a door open for the person behind you? To help a lady up the stairs of the train station with a baby carriage? To just say good morning to someone that you make eye contact with while getting on the train ?

Nothing.

Somewhere along the way on the road to happiness we became self absorbed. We decided that we are too busy to be friendly to strangers or to realize that we are part of a society.

For me, one of the reasons I am courteous to others that I imagine my mom was watching or that one of her friends would see me not doing the right thing and would rat me out. Do you have any idea what would happen to me if she had found out that I didn’t hold a door open a door for a friend of hers? A beating beyond belief.

Why? Because my actions and how I carry myself are a direct reflection on her and her parenting skills. Her mind set is “what kind of mother am I that I raised a rude kid?”. Because I am proud of how I was brought up, I remember that she taught me to be respectful of others and to mind my manners.

The lessons of politeness are not stressed at home anymore. Maybe because parents are working two and three jobs just to keep a roof over little Johnny’s head. None the less, manners and respect of others are important lessons to learn. You never know who you maybe holding a door open for.

Be cool to each other.

Congratulations Mr. President

Today, I stood in Times Square with maybe 2000 other people watching President-Elect Obama take his oath to become President Obama. I, as was everyone else there, was filled with hope. The hope that America’s greatness would be restored.

Congratulations Sir, Good Luck. Stay Black.

Review: The Wrestler

It is a very good movie if you are a wrestling fan, which I am.   You get to see what these guys do to themselves,  not to entertain but to  just to be cheered by the fans.   If you’re a mark you will love it, but its not a mainstream movie as I had hoped it would be.  As a fan of wrestling, I would like for people to see it the way I used to, as a great way to be entertained and what these men do to themselves day in and day out.
My main problem was with the main character, The RAM.  I just never got behind him.  I was never pulling for him.  Icringed when he got hurt but I didn’t feel bad for him when we would struggle to walk or with his daughter hating him.  He brought all that on himself.  The aches and pains to get up everyday were the badges of a man that took his bumps in the ring over the years while he chased his dreams of being a professional wrestler.  Same goes for the heartache he felt over his daughter not wanting him to be around

Marissa Tomei was not believable for me.  I think she is good in everything that she does but I just didn’t get her as the stripper next door.  She didn’t have  the heart of gold that has been done over and over in movies like this but her realization at the end of the film that she wanted to be with this guy only came after she saw that no one wants lapdances from a stripper that is the same age as their mom.   We are supposed to believe that during the first three quaters of the film that she is living by the strippers code of not falling for their clients and  all of a sudden, bam, she loves him?  Bah.  If that was what her character was supposed to be doing then it was not really conveyed by her.   It came across that she was bithcy and a user.

Now, a few years ago I read Ric Flair’s book and almost cried seeing when getting to the chapters where he states that he KNOWS he missed out on things in his life and says that he now pays the price for living the life that he did.

At the end, I guess I was  supposed to wonder if he died or not.. but honestly I didn’t care.  At that point, I didn’t care since he pushed away anyone that might have cared about him just to get one last RUSH of the crowd cheering for him.  If he died, he died not much different that a drug addict.
