Big in 2010

I wanted to do this blog 2 weeks ago but pushed it back for no real reason. Now, I have to hurry up and do it before it gets too late.

Being an active user of twitter and facebook and being a man about town, I get to talk with and meet people that all chasing their dreams and are good at what they do. The following list is of people doing cool things that I think will have breakthrough years, Yoda willing.

Ivy Bakery:

Here is a someone that lets you watch as she makes a Homer Simpson cake via her youtube page she has made cupcakes for Martha Stewart. She toils in a hot bakery from sunrise to sunrise all in hopes of baking delicious snacks and desserts for you to enjoy.

Mersh

As a fan of good stand up comedy, Mersh is setting the bar for up and coming comics. He is in the process of recording a comedy CD that will surely lite the internet a fire with his self deprecating humor. If you don’t believe me, check out the pod cast he does with fellow comedians Evan and Heather called Hate Speech Radio. Some where, someone is putting together a line up of internet radio shows to cross over to mainstream media and this show should be on their list.

Regal Vegan

Now I am not just saying this because Ella is my wife’s best friend. Truth is Ella and I do not always get along but we do love each other. I can honestly say though that she has a great line of vegan food products, her “ellavation” program is great for those looking to detoxify their bodies. I will put her vegan meals up against any one else’s as far as quality and taste. Her Faux Gras is now available in 7 different food markets in NYC with more coming soon. If you like Foie gras but know that it is too fatty to eat then you need to get Ella’s Faux Gras and never look back at fatty livers.

Lisa Bianco

I have been listening to her music for a few years now. Songs like Sideways and Post Data are just waiting to be played on top 40 stations. When someone starts looking for fresh voices and faces on the modern rock music scene, their search will end with Lisa. Plus, she is a knockout. Pretty, talented, great on stage, what more could you want?

Hoover Dams

This is a band that I found on twitter via my good friend Frank Sidebottom. Their video for the song GO! is fun and rocks. If ever a band could build a reputation for themselves with a song/video, it is this one:

Stay Black.

Review: New York Shaving Company

Its no big secret that I have a hairy body (exhibit A: click) I think I came out of the womb with hair on my chest. I should shave my face every day but that never happens due to time and irritation so I give myself a quick shave 3 times a week and make due.

Last week I was invited by my friend Dani Scala to come into her barber shop, New York Shaving Company for an “ultimate shave”. So I went to give it a try. Not that I am a metro sexual with my grooming habits but I do believe in looking your best as often as possible. I get my hair cut and go for spa pedicure both once a month as a means of feeling better and to take away the stress.

As I was walking up Elizabeth Street and looking for their store front, I spotted an old school barber’s pole. I knew I would like the place instantly. Walking in, the place has an old style tile floor and exposed brick walls, two old school barber’s chairs and work stations and with the old 40′s jazz music playing softly overhead, you are taken back to another time.

Out of the 2 barbers there, the younger one took care of me. From the time that the first hot towel went on my face until I was helped on with my coat, I felt like I was a King. I just sat there relaxed and enjoyed watching this artist attack my 6 day old beard.

Everything in this shop is clean and the service was friendly. One tip though, turn your cell phone off as you walk in. I will now be going in for a shave and haircut once a month and I cannot wait.
